How to Properly Use Inversion Therapy to Stop Back Pain

How to Properly Use Inversion Therapy to Stop Back Pain

As a former back pain sufferer, I can now say that without doubt the inversion table is the greatest medical invention ever. When properly used it can reduce or eliminate almost any back pain that a chiropractor can take care of.

But the problem is that most people are not instructed on how to use the table of how it helps to stop the pain in your back.

It is a virtual guarantee that anybody with chronic back pain who goes into a full inversion will do a substantial amount of damage. Yet the pictures on every web site that sells inversion tables shows a photo of someone severely over inverted.

To understand how to use inversion you must first understand what your back needs to heal itself. The best example is what happens to astronauts in a weightless (gravity free) situation. They return to Earth an inch or more taller than when they left.

What happens is when your spine is released from gravity for an extended time, the disc are allowed to return to their natural shape. While astronauts can't have bad backs, it is a safe bet that if a man with chronic back problems went into space for a week he would return pain free.

Therein lies the secret to using inversion to correct your back problems and eliminating the pain. The object is not to stretch the back by hanging fully inverted.

Instead, you should invert only to the position where gravity is released. You should feel no downward pressure and no stretching of the back. A 20 degree inversion is usually about right.

You should stay in that position for 5 minutes or so if you are in acute pain. You can go a little longer once the pain subsides. Never go more than 10 minutes.

So get that inversion table. No I don't have one to sell you. And yes, a cheap one will do just fine. You can even prop up a piece of plywood on a cinder block and use that until you can afford an inversion table.

You will be amazed at the results.
